What is ASP Net
The Associated School Project (ASP) net work was launched by UNESCO in 1953. ASP is a network of schools throughout the world committed to the ideas of UNESCO such as human rights, peace, intercultural dialogue, nature conservation and cultural preservation. This is a world wide network of schools of children, young people and teachers whose activity strive to promote the above mentioned valuable theme. There are more than 7,000 associated schools spread over 172 countries. The number is steadily increased. Today, Associated schools conduct pilot projects in favor of better preparing children and young people to meet effectively the challenges of an increasingly complex and interdependent world. The ASPnet strategy and plan of Action places emphasis on reinforcing the four pillars of Learning for the 21st Century (Learning to know, to do, to be and to live together) and promoting quality education.
In Sri Lanka there are 85 schools under the ASP network. The schools belonging to this network through the clubs in the school endeavour to educate young people in a spirit of tolerance and international understanding enlisting the active participation of the pupils themselves. In this ASP network teachers and students have enough time to work together and this net work endeavour to bridge the gap between what is taught in the classroom and what is happening in the world to day.
